'Endearment' . 8" x 10" . oil on wood panel

A little painting for a friend who has been going through wretched chemotherapy. She can't receive fresh flowers so when I found her favorites at the market, they became a gift in a painting… pink peonies!

Lisianthus and Darby

Pink Lisianthus and Abraham Darby roses are among my favorite flowers from the garden… they do fine in our hot summer months.
Even after cutting the Lisianthus and putting them in a vase, they last for weeks… nearly as if I just picked them! They're wonderful.
And, for some reason unknown to me, the images on this blog aren't showing as well as they do on the website. I have heard other artists complain about the same problem. I will need to spend some time researching and resolving that issue.
At any rate, here is a link to the image on the website for a little better look at one of my favorite subject matters to paint.

I love citrus trees! Especially when they're growing in pots.
With them it's a bit like Christmas throughout the year… their branches so brightened by their sweet, colorful (sometimes sour!!) ornaments!
Love that.

Pink Lisianthus are a true gift during the hot summer months. They don't seem to mind the heat one little bit. Thankfully! It has been a hot summer!

Quail Egg, Roses, and Delphinium

I found a little quail egg… it was just sitting out on the open ground.
Quail usually make a bed in a well-protected, hidden area of moist dirt. They lay one egg each day until there are no more. (Yet they all hatch within about 10 minutes of each other!)
I'm guessing something scared the wits out of the mother hen before she could make it to her nesting bed.
That exposed little egg was bound for the dinner table of a hawk, rat, or snake.
I was happy to find it first.

The Blessed Virgin Mary... The Immaculate Conception... stands tall in her power to crush evil which, by God's command, must remain under her feet.
I posted a 'work in progress' of this painting earlier here...
... and am still looking for the name of the painter who originally painted this composition... a composition I have altered a tad.
